PPMA 2013

Peer-to-Peer-based Multimedia Applications – Special Session

The goal of this special session is to provide an international forum for researchers and practitioners in a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) area, to present, discuss, and exchange highly innovative research results and advanced topics.

The P2P paradigm has emerged as a powerful approach for large-scale distributed systems. This is achieved by employing appropriate formation and communication methodologies without the necessity for central coordination. Combining these promising technologies together with the emerging multimedia techniques will change the way we communicate by enabling new applications such as audio and video streaming over P2P. Such services have recently become more prevalent on the Internet as they offer advantages in terms of flexibility, robustness, and re-configurability. However, the design and implementation of P2P-based multimedia systems that guarantee high quality of service and experience are still challenging due to both unpredictable behaviors of P2P users and best-effort characteristics of delivery networks.

The aim of this special session is to examine P2P-based multimedia technologies, applications, and systems, but also to identify key research issues and challenges that lie ahead. Topics relevant to this session include, but are not limited to:

  • Novel P2P-based Video Streaming Solutions
  • P2P Infrastructure and Overlay Networks
  • Wireless Multimedia
  • Context Awareness Model for Multimedia P2P Networking
  • System Prototypes, Measurements and Real Deployment Experiences
  • Quality of Service and Quality of Experience Issues
  • Design of New Protocols and Performance Evaluation
  • Advanced Coding Techniques
  • Protocols for Resource Management/Discovery/Reservation/Scheduling
  • Personalized Query Processing
  • Adaptive or Scalable Video Streaming
  • Security Issues

Researchers are encouraged to submit their contributions that have direct impact or high dependence on practical issues encountered in real-world environments. Industrial oriented research papers are also highly encouraged.

Submit your paper to PPMA.

Submission & Publication

Accepted papers will be published on IEEEXplore (IEEE Digital Library). Prospective authors are invited to submit an original full-length paper (10-point font) in IEEE format via the EDAS submissions system at ICCIT EDAS – PPMA. Note that the maximum number of pages is 6; 5 pages plus 1 additional page allowed with a charge for the one additional page of USD100 if accepted. Submitted papers must represent original material that is not currently under review in any other conference or journal and has not been previously published.

Registration is required for all participants. To be published in the proceedings, every accepted paper MUST have at least one registered author at the full rate and must be presented at the conference. For authors with multiple papers, one full registration is required for one paper and half full registration is required for the other papers. More details about the registration can be found at ICCIT registration page.
